Clan Gregor Society Archives

     The American Clan Gregor Society Archives are kept at the General Marshall Magruder Memorial Library located at at the University of Baltimore, Room 200 of Langsdale Library.  Should you have any questions or comments please contact the Society's Librarian.      The Clan Gregor Society Archives (Scotland) (Adobe Acrobat 150+ KB) were donated to the National Library of Scotland on behalf of the Clan Gregor Centre in February 1999.  This is the first of three (as of April 2004) Clan Gregor deposits.  For the second, see Acc. 12335.  For the third see Acc.12335.  According to the NLS:  This material represents the contribution of a rather small number of active individuals to the Clan Gregor Centre over many years of collecting and compiling. It represent both traditional knowledge and many years of research. It has occasionally been possible to attribute a file to a named individual but in most cases the folders are composite collections from many sources and these are attributed to me in my capacity as curator and general editor.

Serendipity

     This page provides links to Web sites have a variety of affiliations with the name Gregor:

• A Pipe band in Finnland (MacGregors) is now the Helsinki Pipes and Drums the oldest, finest and only Pipe Band in Finland. They have changed tha name and crest but still use the MacGregor tartan.

• Another View of Gregor MacGregor, the Swashbuckling Scot Who Ruled Amelia Island:  The history of Amelia Island is abundant with colorful characters, but perhaps none were more outlandish than Sir Gregor MacGregor, the Scottish-born General turned South American freedom fighter who ruled the island for the summer of 1817. ... On June 29, 1817, MacGregor led a ragtag band of troops to a victory over the Spanish garrison that was in control of Amelia Island.  The Spanish were caught completely by surprise.
